Dribble to Stop Diabetes

The American Diabetes Association of North Texas has been selected to work with the Texas Legends Team for Dribble to Stop Diabetes which will take place on March 30 at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas at 7 p.m. There will be a raffle and a shoot around with some of the players.

We are thrilled to let you know that Dribble to Stop Diabetes, a collaborative effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the NBA Development League (D-League), the American Diabetes Association, and sanofi-aventis U.S., has launched!

This national multimedia campaign, under the NBA/WNBA/D-League FIT umbrella, is designed to encourage millions of fans across the country to live an active, healthy lifestyle, while raising awareness about diabetes prevention and management.

Dribble to Stop Diabetes will tip off in Los Angeles during NBA All-Star 2011 with assists from campaign ambassadors Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, Alana Beard of the Washington Mystics and NBA Legends Walt Frazier and Chris Dudley. Dribble to Stop Diabetes will host three NBA/WNBA/D-League FIT Clinics at the 2011 NBA All-Star Jam Session presented by adidas.

As part of the campaign, NBA, WNBA and NBA D-League teams will host Dribble to Stop Diabetes in-arena nights featuring on-court activation and PSAs.  Teams will also provide fans with diabetes educational materials and Dribble to Stop Diabetes clinics will take place during the 2011 WNBA Finals.

Dribble to Stop Diabetes will also roll out a series of additional initiatives including diabetes educational materials distributed through the league’s NBA/WNBA FIT program and a microsite that is now live at www.dribbletostopdiabetes.com. The microsite encourages fans to discuss diabetes with their health care providers, while providing links to various Association tools and resources.

As a reminder, limited markets will be selected by the sponsor for promotional activities with NBA, WNBA and D-League teams. Discussions are also underway with the NBA about how to use participating players to amplify American Diabetes Association Alert DaySM, American Diabetes Month® and other aspects of our Stop Diabetes movement. We will be providing more details shortly including information about local activation and guidance on a broader communications strategy.
