The American Diabetes Association’s North Texas office is the proud recipient of the 2011 RAM Award for School Walk for Diabetes. RAM Awards are given to local organizations that focus on Retention, Acquisition, and Management strategy in addition to relationship-building, volunteer development, and recruitment. The 2010 School Walk for Diabetes earned $236,787, making North Texas the 3rd largest School Walk campaign in the nation.
“Our School Walk program educates over 61,000 students yearly,” said Sandy Peters, the North Texas Associate Director for School Walk for Diabetes. “The vast impact this program makes will without a doubt help us to stop diabetes.”
School Walk for Diabetes promotes the prevention and management of diabetes through education and advocacy and by providing resources aligned with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education standards. Because of the funds raised nationwide through School Walk for Diabetes, the American Diabetes Association is able to support over $34 million in research for type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes annually.
