Fall Celebrations & Sweet Treats

Pirate or superhero? Princess or rock star? It’s difficult enough trying to help your child find a costume with so much to choose from, but you also have to monitor your child’s diabetes during the many Fall festivals and Halloween parties. Managing glucose numbers with all the candy and sweet treats around can be scary, but it doesn’t have to spoil the fun. You can help your child enjoy the celebrations by planning ahead with a few of these strategies:

  • Talk to your doctor about adjusting insulin to cover the extra treats and snacks.
  • Make and take a healthy snack to share with others. See our recipe of the month for a yummy idea.
  • If you are planning a party, you can limit the amount of sweet treats and offer alternatives like small toys, stickers and prizes.
