American Diabetes Association Celebrates North Texas Volunteers

It is National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 12-18, 2015. The American Diabetes Association of North Texas would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the volunteers who graciously have given their time, expertise, dedication and hard work to help us Stop Diabetes®.

“American Diabetes Association volunteers believe in our vision of a life free of diabetes,” said Leonor Marquez, chairman of the DFW Leadership Board. “National Volunteer Appreciation Week is a good time to highlight the impact that can be made when volunteers apply their professional skills and talents to their volunteer experience. I’d like to say thank you to all of our volunteers for everything they have given to us.”

Two of our youngest volunteers, Ryleigh Ashford, 10, pictured above, and Grace Kendzierski, 7, pictured above, are our Youth Ambassadors for ADA’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes and Tour de Cure events respectively. They have given countless hours touring the area giving talks at their schools and to others about the effects diabetes has had on their lives.

Ryleigh was recently pictured on the newsletter cover of Cook Children’s Hospital. Cook Children’s sponsors our camp in Fort Worth and their nurses provide all the support at the camp. Grace is our Living Proof Ambassador Award Winner and is pictured with long-time volunteer, Jim West, 81. He was diagnosed with type 1 at age 11, when the ADA was just four years old.
