Tiffany’s Themed Live It Up! Tea Inspires Many

The 9th annual Texas Health Resources Live It Up! Health & Wellness Tea presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas was held at the Belo Mansion April 16, 2016, with over 425 people in attendance.  Chaired by Errika Flood Moultrie and Gloria Fobbs, the faith-based initiatives of Live Empowered! raised over $30,000 with support from our sponsors: Medtronic, Hilltop Securities and Diabetes Health & Wellness Institute.

“Tea at Tiffany’s” – the theme this year – resonated throughout the venue with tiffany blue and tea accents.

“It was amazing to see ladies of all age groups out with much excitement,” said Lalonni DuBose Hagerman, marketing and social media co-chair. “Learning how diabetes affects our daily lives and managing through it was the most important message of the event.”

The Tea’s featured speaker, Dr. Jill Waggoner presented the “ABC’s of Diabetes,” a powerful and enlightening educational session from a physicians’ perspective, while guest singer Crystal Aikin rendered a phenomenal performance of popular gospel songs.

“The Tea is a great platform to address diabetes in a fun, festive environment, while still focusing on the seriousness of the disease and empowering participants to make a difference within their own families,”  added Andrea Hayes, volunteer marketing and social media co-chair.

Highlights of the program were the Volunteer Awards, Style Show and “Hattitude” contest.  Awards recipients were Errika Flood Moultrie for the James R. Gavin Excellence in Diabetes Award and Comille Ann Roberts for the Shelly Heath-Watson Excellence in Volunteerism Award.  The style show bolstered an array of spring and summer fashions and featured three youth with type 1 diabetes from Camp New Horizons.  Kathy Henderson was the grand prize winner of the coveted “Hattitude” contest, where ladies adorned their fashionable spring hats.  Kathy will receive a complimentary table of ten for the 2017 Tea.

“Congratulations on another very successful event. The whole thing was superb,” said Amy Schornick, VP of Payor Relations, Texas Health Resources and former board member. “You know this is my favorite event of the year, and this year it didn’t disappoint.  My girls had a wonderful time and were so grateful to be able to attend.  Dr. Jill Waggoner, keynote speaker was outstanding and best we have had to date in presenting diabetes info in an engaging way.  Keep up the great work!”
