CheckUp America Community Event Pilot Kicks Off in Dallas
The CheckUp America community event pilot program kicked off this month at three Dallas Mavericks basketball games. The events are designed to create awareness for type 2 diabetes and measure outcomes associated with diabetes risk.
The American Diabetes Association had a booth on the concourse to distribute Diabetes Risk Tests and other prevention materials. Fans could register to win autographed Mavericks gear and foam Stop Diabetes® hands. In addition, local Walgreens pharmacists performed blood pressure screenings.
“We had a great presence at all three games,” said Quin Neal, Senior Executive Director, North Texas. “CheckUp America PSAs played on the jumbotron, Stop Diabetes signage directed people to our booth and hundreds of visitors were able to take the Diabetes Risk Test.”
The CheckUp America community events fall in line with the Association’s strategic goal to double the number of people who know they are at risk for type 2 diabetes by 2015. The events were sponsored by Walgreens and Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
We had 238 total paper risk test takers. The street team was huge in making that happen.
Thank you to everyone who took the risk test on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 – American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Alert Day. Nationally, there were nearly 58,000 who took the risk test online. The American Diabetes Association’s North Texas office distributed hundreds of Diabetes Risk Tests to Mavericks fans in recognition of Diabetes Alert Day. Fans visited the CheckUp America booth on the concourse to take the Risk Test, receive free diabetes information, and get their blood pressure screened. One lucky fan also received a signed Mavericks item. Support for the booth was provided by Walgreens and Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
